Agreement Signed for the construction of An Aircraft Maintainance HangarAbyssinian Flight Services have signed an agreement with SA construction for the construction of an Aircraft Maintenance Hangar inside Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (AABIA) vicinity.

The hangar will be constructed on an area of 1584m2 which AFS took from Ethiopian Airport Enterprise with a lease agreement. The project will cost AFS around 30,000,000.00 Birr for the construction alone.

The construction of this hangar is thought to be a groundbreaking experience in the general aviation history of Ethiopia since there are no other similar facilities owned and operated by a private company hence making AFS’s the first of its kind.

On the event, the Deputy Manager of AFS – Capt. Amare Gebrehana outlined that “the construction of such facility will help AFS by reducing the frequency, time and cost needed to travel to Nairobi, Kenya for an Aircraft engine over haul.” He goes on to say that “It gives AFS a go - to work to become an Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO). It also helps the country with reduced loss of foreign exchange and generating income.”

Upon completion, the Hangar is expected to benefit the Aviation Industry with Knowledge transfer and employment opportunity.

The hangar is expected to be completed in 180 days from commencement
